A prequel to Jim Henson’s cult classic film, “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” is a grotesque and fascinating return to the world of Thra in the best possible way. The series expands upon the lore of the Dark Crystal universe, exploring the years before the original film and the adventure of three Gelflings on a quest for truth. The creature design and puppetry are top-notch, unparalleled in modern media; every creature is distinct and given a loving attention-to-detail; textures are bold and almost tangible. The style lends itself to moments of mystical beauty and gut-wrenching ugliness.

Puppet work is rarely seen outside of children’s programming and to see it done so effectively and in a mature way is awesome to watch. There are instances of CGI, however, they are used sparingly. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus, called people to follow Him and to seek Him. John 8:32 states: “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Part of each protagonist’s journey is learning that they live in darkness, much like we do before knowing Christ (the Truth). Like the heroes of the story, we must seek the truth unwaveringly.

Veronica Mars

Platform: Hulu/The CW
Rating: TV-14

The fourth season of the popular sleuthing show returns to Neptune and an older Veronica Mars is on the case. While the show serves as yet another example of a successful series resurrection, and a returning cast may please longtime fans, the show contains too much immorality for me to recommend.

First Responders Live

Platform: Hulu/Fox
Rating: TV-14

“First Responders Live” follows a number of different first responders during various events in (usually) real-time and highlights individuals in the field. The show can range from surprising to somewhat boring, but the variety of scenarios should keep fans of the tense and dangerous subject matter entertained.
