“The Ninth Jedi” Feels Familiar and Holds Up

In the wake of an encroaching threat, a disparate group of jedi seek a way to defeat the dark side. I’m normally very cautious about anime due to some of the content it can be known for, but thankfully this show avoids a lot of the negative trappings of the genre. The show looks good — it’s animated well with some interesting designs and fun action scenes. The show tries to innovate the narrative to an extent, but it unfortunately falls prey to the retreading of established “Star Wars” plot points; I’ve been a “Star Wars” fan my whole life, but how many more super weapons and masked antagonists with a voice changer are we going to have? How many times are we going to have the Jedi Order in shambles? This isn’t a bad show — it’s just slightly frustrating to see the same elements again and again. Throughout the show, events transpire to shake the faith of the protagonist Kara. Likewise, when our faith is tested, let us remember Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Coyote vs Acme

Rating: PG

After decades of failed traps and mishaps, Wile E. Coyote is taking the world’s largest corporation to court. Some off-color jokes aside, this is a decent and fun film. My only real complaint is that I really wish that the courtroom aspect of the film was a larger part of the movie.

Camp Rock 3

Rating: G | Platform: Disney+

Years after their last visit, the band Connect 3 returns to Camp Rock with an all-new set of campers chasing their musical dreams. The film tries to recapture the feeling of the originals with allusions, but in execution, it trades the cheesy charm for a more cringe experience.
