A Podcast’s Theme of Survival Becomes Reality
“As a prisoner who is offered freedom, she fights harder than any character I have ever read.”Author Tiffany Crum mixes mystery, thriller, and romance in her book “This Story Might Save Your Life.” Not only do the characters Benny and Joy talk about stories of survival on their podcast, but they also actually endure one, which makes the premise of having a podcast based on survival that much more interesting. Crum’s writing style really drew me in and kept me wanting to turn the page to see how Joy disappeared along with her husband Xander. Throughout the book, I had an inkling that both main characters Benny and Joy had mutual romantic feelings towards one another, but it was sort of a shock to see how it all played out. This book also dabbled in the past and present format and honestly, I am always down for a past and present timeline because it just makes reading the present timeline that much more thrilling and enjoyable to see what is at stake. Overall, for a debut novel, this is phenomenal.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
This book changed my life. One of my favorite types of book characters is a female main character who is a fighter of some sort — and Celaena Sardothein is the ultimate fighter. As a prisoner who is offered freedom, she fights harder than any character I have ever read. I was physically able to feel her aches and bruises but also her strength and courage, and that has inspired me every day since I finished this book.

The Joy of the In-Between by Ashley Hetherington
No one likes to wait. Whether it’s a few minutes or a few weeks, waiting is hard. But as Christians we are called to endure through suffering and count it all as joy, and Hetherington’s book reminds us of what God has called us to do. She reminds us that there is joy in Jesus, and that ultimately, in Him we are sustained and strengthened. This book has shown me how to slow down and sincerely trust in God and what He has planned for each of us.
