I’ve been feeling far from God and leaning more on the world. How can I grow closer to Him?

The world around us offers so many distractions and tangible comforts that it can be easy to feel far from God’s presence and caught up in the temporal.

First, you can ground yourself in God’s Word. We know on the authority of Scripture that there is no place we can go that is far from God’s presence. The Psalmist wrote, “Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast” (Psalm 139:7-10, NIV).

Second, talk with God through prayer. Specifically, ask that He help you be aware of His presence in your life. And finally, take the time to remember other times in your life when God has faithfully shown His love and presence to you, and ask friends or mentors to share their stories of God’s faithful presence with you.
