I don’t really want to go to church. Does that make me a bad Christian?
"Church isn’t supposed to be a product you consume — it’s a community you help create."No, not wanting to go to church doesn’t make you a bad Christian. But it’s worth asking why you don’t want to go. Maybe you’re exhausted, bored, distracted, or just not connecting. God’s grace isn’t something you earn by showing up every Sunday, but you might experience something there that you can’t experience on your own.
Church isn’t supposed to be a product you consume — it’s a community you help create.
Passages in the Bible like Hebrews 10 tells us we need to spend time with people, not just for what we can get, but for what we can give. You need both to feel like a whole person.
People struggle to feel whole because they are missing connection with others. A World Health Organization report in 2025 lists loneliness as a public health crisis. At a time when one in six people globally report feeling lonely, showing up for others matters. But communities don’t appear out of thin air.
Maybe the community you’ve been looking for is the one you haven’t helped build yet. Send an invite. Start a conversation. Don’t just say what’s missing — fill in what’s missing. What could you do this week to help turn your church into the community you can’t wait to go back to?
