We live in a fast-paced and distracted world—always in a rush to get from point A to B while following the trending ideas on social media, getting absorbed in a Netflix series and so on. There’s something beautiful about serving others; it’s the tangible way of slowing down and showing the love of Jesus with meaningful action. The act of serving is a selfless display of compassion where the true qualities of your heart are shown; it reveals that your intentions are pure as you are willing to meet someone in their need at that given moment, just as Jesus did.

Serving is an important part of our Christian walk as it gives us the opportunity to center ourselves in the light and love that Jesus provides. After all, when we serve, we share the heart of Jesus who was the Servant. In Isaiah 58:10, the prophet instructs us to, “Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.” The ministry of serving is critical because by showing this genuine act of love, we emit the light of Jesus into our corner of the world.
