Sharon Van Etten has been known to write about love in a way that is analytical, yet revealing. Her 2014 album, “Are We There,” is a solid example of her gentle vocals, which effortlessly shift to awe-inspiring moments surrounded by a consonance of guitars, pianos and drums. This year she releases her fifth studio album, “Remind Me Tomorrow,” which includes the single “Comeback Kid.”

Since her 2014 release that furthered her stardom, much has changed in Van Etten’s personal life. She became a mother, started an acting career and pursued a psychology degree. This is reflected in the newer and much bolder sound we hear in “Comeback Kid.” “Pitchfork” described “Are We There” as the peak of her upward trajectory, and this new song continues the momentum, as Van Etten’s new sound feels as though it has ignited upon leaving the atmosphere. The insanely driving beat matched with gritty organs and synths makes you want to play the song as loud as your speakers will allow. Although Van Etten is not a Christian artist, her songs come from a place of sincerity and vulnerability that will surely resonate with many. By Sam Arias
