Tom Hardy Does the Right Thing

Venom: His dark self never looked better.

The fan-favorite lethal protector, Venom, takes his dark and ravenous shot at a solo film. Reporter and journalist Eddie Brock, known for his stubbornness and hunger for truth, experiences a terrifying new world when an alien symbiote inhabits his body and mind. It’s a daunting task to adapt this character, especially without the influence of Spiderman, but there are things to enjoy about this movie.

Tom Hardy plays a conflicted and tortured Eddie very profoundly, and Venom has never looked better on screen as his dark sense of humor fits into the character. There are violent scenes, but they are done tactfully. However, the plot is pretty simple even for the genre, and it’s weighed down by harsh language that doesn’t add anything to the movie. If the language Zeitgeist cut out, I would have had a much better experience. Eddie always tries to do the right thing, and often, he suffers for it. Paul said, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9). However, there are better role models who exemplify this idea than Venom.

“Tom Hardy plays a conflicted and tortured Eddie very profoundly, and Venom has never looked better on screen as his dark sense of humor fits into the character.”
