Set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, “The Mandalorian” is the show to watch for “Star Wars” fans of all ages on the new Disney+ streaming service.

Producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau combine science fiction and the Wild West to produce some of the best “Star Wars” content in recent years. As a member of a secretive warrior culture, the mysterious Mandalorian makes his way in the universe despite his complicated profession. Simply put, “The Mandalorian” is absolutely fantastic. The show provides a look into a more shady and gritty side of the “Star Wars” universe, stepping away from two large factions at war, and instead focusing on a personal journey, which is refreshing. The writing, acting, costume design and cinematography are all top-notch, providing a near-cinematic experience on the small screen.

Each episode ranges in quality—however, the series hasn’t dipped below great so far. Personally, I think this is the best show on Disney+ and it has been my favorite original content on the new platform.

Ridiculously long title aside, this odd series contains humorous moments, solid acting and clever references to the original phenomenon, albeit through terrible role models with paper-thin motivations, ill-conceived decision-making and an intelligence level that is sure to insult actual teenagers.

Kristen Bell hosts “Encore,” a reality show in which former high school theater students reunite to re-perform a production from their past. It’s fun to watch people reminisce and reconnect after decades of separation and life experiences. The iconic stories should be entertaining for fans of theater and drama.
