When decorating, one of the most neglected spaces in a home is usually the foyer or entryway. This is surprising, considering it’s the part of the home that everyone sees first and walks through to enter the rest of the house. Here are some tips I used to help me create this space in my home:

  1. It should be true to your aesthetic. Your entryway should show your personality and let your guests know who you are.
  2. Make it functional. People typically do not see foyers as functional spaces. My keys and unread mail live in my entryway. You might use it as a space to leave your shoes or coats.
  3. Keep it light. The goal is not to over-accessorize. You do not want your entryway to be messy, so avoid clutter.
  4. Mix and match color and décor. Mixing antique accents with modern colors makes the foyer visually appealing.
  5. Add layers. Do more than just add decor to an entryway table. Add a basket underneath the table and add art or decor that draws the eyes up. Keep the space balanced.
