What does it really mean to participate in mission?

What a great question! When I think of our mission in The Salvation Army, my first thought goes to Matthew 28:16-20, which commands that we go into all the world to preach the Gospel. We tend to shy away from sounding too preachy, but we are given another scriptural example of what that ought to look like. Jesus tells us that when we feed the hungry, clothe the naked or visit the sick and imprisoned, we participate in mission because we are showing our devotion and love to Christ. The mission is indeed for lost souls, motivated by love for Christ and lived out in service towards others. Because of this, mission happens in all of those small things. That means, you don’t have to start off big! Start off small and make a big difference!
