PEER:  Did you always have a passion for music?

BELLA TAYLOR SMITH: I did, yes! But to be completely honest, it wasn’t until I got saved when I was 15 that I believed it was something for me.

P: Did you always know you wanted to sing?

B: Again, it was when I realized why I could sing and what that meant that made me want to do it! Having a greater purpose and intention to use my gift was it for me.

P: Did you grow up in the church? How did you come to know Jesus?

B: I got saved at a summer camp when I was 15! I had been attending church for about a year before deciding to follow Jesus.

P: Who (or what) are your musical influences?

B: Right now, I feel like people, everyday people, who I know or don’t, are my biggest influences and inspiration. Also, the greater Church and writing music that is empowering and encouraging, being conscious of what words people are singing over themselves if they are singing music I have written and how it leaves them feeling!

P: How does your relationship with God influence your songwriting and music?

B: Hugely. I’m so excited to really step out in this area this year with a move to Nashville on the horizon. It’s faith-based music all the way now for me!

P: How do you remain rooted in your faith as you pursue a music career?

B: My faith in God is everything for my career and just for my personhood. Having my heart and mind centered on a greater purpose than my motivations is the most rewarding and exciting part.

P: What advice do you have for young aspiring musicians?

B: Be yourself, find your voice and ask why you love your work! That will bring longevity.

P: What is the best piece of advice that you have ever received?

B: I think my favorite piece of advice was, “Everything works out how it’s supposed to.” There isn’t a big story or a particular moment, but this has been a massive anchor for me that as I align my heart with God, He will make my path clear and straight and work it all together for good.

P:  Do you have anything exciting in the works?

B: Yes! My husband and I moved to Nashville in April, and potentially, an album is in the works.

P: What’s a go-to self-care tip for feeling overwhelmed?

B: I love to cook and bake! So that’s it for me, and it fills another love tank for me, which is hospitality, so I get to decompress cooking and my loved ones get something yummy!

P: What are you currently listening to?

B: Lots of amazing new Christian music is coming out now. I have been loving Abbie Gamboa especially!

P: What Bible verse has been on your heart recently?

B: Philippians 4:6 has been important for me recently. Picking up my whole life to follow my dreams can feel daunting but I know God is in it, and through prayer, anything is possible! “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6, NIV).
