Of the Ten Commandments, the one most easily broken is #4: the command to rest on the Sabbath. Whether on Sunday or any other day of the week, it’s important we have a regular day of downtime that honors God and detaches us from the world. Jesus points out to us in Mark 2:27 that, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” (NIV). God commands us to rest, not because He needs it, but because we need it! Robert Morris in his book, “Take A Day Off” encourages us to ask ourselves two questions in regard to Sabbath, “Are there benefits to incorporating this command into my life?” and “Are there negative consequences in life if I do not?” Keeping a regular Sabbath or rest day is an obedient step of faith. Unplug and unwind! All that “stuff” will still be there tomorrow.
