How Can I Get Out of A Spiritual Slump?
"Have grace with yourself, it can be hard to get out of a slump!"I don’t feel like reading my Bible. How can I get out of this spiritual slump?
When I don’t feel like reading my Bible, I start small. I start with a story I am already familiar with, so it takes less brain power. It seems easier. I read it, or part of it, and then I put it aside for the day. The next day, I read another familiar story. By day three, I am ready to read and dig deeper, so I start with a short book like Jude. I read it once through and write down any thoughts. I do this until the end of the week, then I fall into the habit of reading every day. When I start week two, I am ready to do some kind of reading plan! Have grace with yourself, it can be hard to get out of a slump!

How do I remain positive when life (school, extracurriculars, social) is overwhelming? What are practical tips to remain positive?
Life can feel overwhelming with academic pressure, extracurricular responsibilities, friendships, family drama, comparison on social media, and endless expectations.
In those moments, it’s easy to slip into frustration, anxiety, or even negativity. But here’s the truth: You can choose to live with joy. Like focusing on the negative is a choice, joy is a decision of the heart, not only a reaction to external circumstances.
Joy isn’t about pretending everything’s fine or walking around with a fake smile. Joy is anchored in something deeper, Someone stronger: Jesus.
The joy Nehemiah talks about in chapter 8 isn’t based on perfect conditions. In fact, God’s people were tired, emotional, and broken. But Nehemiah reminded them: “This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10b, NIV).
Their joy didn’t come from their situation. It stemmed from knowing God was with them, for them, and still working. Ask yourself:
- Who or what am I allowing to steal my joy?
- Am I choosing to let people or situations define how I feel?
- Am I holding onto the unchanging joy of knowing Christ?
It’s okay to feel. God welcomes your emotions. But don’t let emotions completely and only decide your direction. Let truth lead you.
