Brittney was born in Columbus, Ohio where she shared a home with five siblings. At an early age, Brittney was thrust into helping raise her brothers and sisters. This experience forced Brittney to grow up quickly as she took on new pressures and responsibilities aimed at protecting and providing for her family. With the chaos of home always looming, The Salvation Army Columbus East Main Corps became Brittney’s anchor, a safe and affirming community that loved her, poured into her and equipped her to take ownership of her faith. Britney recalls, “When you get to know people who love the Lord and love you, you can’t help but think, ‘What do they have and how can I experience it for myself?’”

After high school, Brittney was confronted with the realization that she had spent so much of her life caring for others that she had forgotten to care for herself. Today, Brittney embraces the challenge to set up and maintain healthy boundaries and rhythms that bring life to her mind, body and spirit.

Brittney is encouraged by the promise that God spoke over Moses in Exodus 14:14 (NIV), “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

“Growing up, I used to fight for everybody, and there were times when it felt like nobody was fighting for me. But it’s in those moments that God reminds us to slow down and trust Him, because He’s got it!”

If there’s one piece of advice that Brittney can share from personal experience it’s that, “Life can be complicated, but there are people who love you (and most importantly) a God Who has got you! Seek out community and stop trying to do it all on your own!”

Today, Brittney is a student at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. She has a heart for service and a desire to one day travel the world to tend to the needs of others. Brittney is passionate about worship and possesses a deep appreciation for people and culture.

Brittney is actively engaged in the ministry of the Cincinnati Westside Corps and is planning to work at Camp Swoneky in summer 2024 as the assistant camp nurse!
