Born in Lake City, FL, Christian grew up attending church with his family. He spent his childhood singing in choir and helping out whenever he was needed. Church was where his foundation for service was built.
But in 2018, after a devastating loss in his family, he felt himself starting to drift away from the church. Over the years, he grew isolated and unmotivated with his faith.
Years later, in 2023, his mom was the one to encourage him to apply for a position at a Salvation Army camp, Camp Keystone. He was initially hesitant as he took on the role of assistant head counselor. “At first, I kept to myself,” he shared, “but through small moments, like being welcomed by fellow staff and bonding over an escape room and cheesecake, I began to open up.” Over the next two summers, he served as assistant head counselor and eventually head male counselor. In addition to managing and mentoring staff, he loved getting the chance to provide an unforgettable, faith-filled experience for campers.
He’s reflected on his experience at camp and has said that it was at camp he realized he didn’t have to walk through life alone anymore. “Camp gave me a sense of community I didn’t know I needed,” he said. “Over the summer, I formed real friendships, stepped into leadership, and rediscovered my passion for serving others — especially the youth.” He remembered Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, which shows the importance of community, and that none of us have to walk through life alone.
Camp allowed Christian to grow spiritually. It eventually led him to become a soldier (member of The Salvation Army) at his local corps (church). Today, he works as an assistant coach at a local university. He continues to trust in the Lord and prays that God keeps him on the path He’s laid out for his life. “Camp didn’t just give me a job; it helped me find my calling.”
