Lauren Daigle & Her Newest Self-Titled Album
Briauna Prieto reviews music by Lauren Daigle, Housefires and Cody Carnes.If you’ve listened to Christian music for the last nine years or so, there is a big chance you’ve heard from Lauren Daigle. She is one of those artists who makes every note sound effortless; her talent is undeniable. Her rich, soulful sound and beautiful songwriting have won her many awards, including Grammys, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards and GMA Dove Awards. Her lyricism is consistently encouraging, often acknowledging the hardships of this life, while reminding the listener of the faithfulness and love of God. Her newest album, titled “Lauren Daigle,” is no exception.
The first song I heard from this album is entitled “Love Me Still.” Right away, it starts with the lyrics “When I’m at my worst / When I’m at my best / You couldn’t love me more / You’ll never love me less.” I can’t imagine a simpler way to summarize God’s consistent love for us. The rest of this album is just as encouraging, incorporating her familiar songwriting style with some fresh new sounds, collaborations and instrumentation. I was surprised to see she has also released instrumental versions of every song, which are perfect for some distraction-free devotional time or even some karaoke worship sessions.
@house_fires
For years, Housefires has been one of my favorite worship groups. Their lyricism is intentional and unique while achieving a sound that’s raw and authentic. It easily makes listeners feel as if they are listening in on a church service, rather than listening to a recorded album.
@codycarnes
As far as worship singers are concerned, Cody Carnes is one of my favorites. From reflective songs like “Nothing Else” to more upbeat songs such as “Be Glad,” it seems as if no matter what season of life you’re going through, he has a word from God presented through song.
