How to Find and Prioritize Joy In Your Life
"You can seek and prioritize joy in your life."In a world filled with chaos, it can be hard to find joy. It can be hard to recognize joy when facing difficult circumstances. But even with those circumstances, you can seek and prioritize joy in your life by doing these simple things.
1. Define what joy is for you.
Not what it is for someone else, but for you. As Christians, we can prioritize joy by remembering God’s grace and dwelling on His goodness. We don’t deny our emotions, especially the negative ones, but instead, dwell on Him and find joy and comfort in His grace.
2. Make time for things you enjoy.
How do you spend free time? Maybe hobbies, time with friends, or volunteering. Making time for what you enjoy will boost feelings of joy and happiness—even if it’s just for 15 minutes a day.
3. Build and maintain positive relationships.
Community is essential to your overall health. It contributes to a better quality of life, which results in a greater sense of identity and confidence, according to a study conducted by the National Library of Medicine. Spend time with your friends and family.
4. Practice gratitude.
The age-old trick: Write down three things you’re grateful for every day. Practice this habit for a week and examine how you see the world around you. After doing so, do you feel more grateful and joyful?
5. Take care of yourself.
Self-care means prioritizing your own mental and physical well-being. When you take care of yourself, you are checking in with yourself and your needs—like a doctor’s check-up. When you do this, you are prioritizing your own joy and happiness.
6. Go outside.
When you’re feeling down and low, taking a brisk walk outside can help tremendously. Feeling the fresh air against your skin, smiling and waving to neighbors, and experiencing creation can lift your spirits.
