April brings one of the biggest celebrations for the Christian faith: the resurrection of Jesus. There are countless songs about Easter that we hear year-round, but I think it’s important for us to not grow numb to their meaning. Recently, I listened to “Grace to Grace” by Hillsong Worship, which was released back in 2016. I hadn’t heard this one yet, but after my first listen, I was immediately captured by the beauty of the lyrics. The first verse reads, “If love endured that ancient cross / How precious is my Savior’s blood / The beauty of heaven wrapped in my shame / The image of love upon death’s frame,” which I think is a wonderfully-summed-up version of the absolute bewilderment that Christians are faced with when we realize how powerful Jesus is, and how amazing it is that He would die for us, all of our dirtiness included. This song starts off rather solemn and slow, but has a great build, especially during the bridge. It’s fitting because the bridge is all about the shift from death and the grave to freedom and the power of Jesus. I would definitely recommend adding this one to your contemporary Easter playlist.

“God So Loved” by We The Kingdom is one of those songs that just makes you happy when you listen to it. It’s about the promise of God’s love and the victory that He’s already won. Lots of Christian songs we love tend to be more reflective, but this one feels like a celebration.

If you’re looking for a more reflective song this Easter, check out “Gratitude” by Brandon Lake. It is not explicitly about Easter, but it expresses the sentiment of truly not having anything to give Jesus that could ever express enough gratitude for what He did (and is doing) for us.
