Why do some people suffer more than others?

Have you ever heard the phrase, “God gives His greatest challenges to His strongest soldiers” when it comes to acknowledging the suffering someone may be going through? While I think we agree this is not the greatest response to someone going through a challenging time, it does open up the question of why some people seem to suffer more than others. The reality is we live in a world that was created perfect by our loving Father in Heaven. With that, He also provided us the gift of free will. But as soon as sin was introduced and distorted the perfect world God created for us, suffering entered as well.

The unfortunate reality is we all will face some sort of trials, struggles or sufferings—whether it’s from the hands of man, illnesses, etc. The Scriptures are full of examples of people, from all walks of life, suffering: from the worst of the worst to even Jesus Himself.

So maybe the better question to ask is, “What do we do when we face these adversities of life?” We can see a notable example of this with Paul and Silas in Acts 16. First, we need to remember who God is: a God of love who created each of us and continues to be with us with every step. Second, we can give Him praise even through adversities. Lastly, we can look for God during the chaos and let that be our testimony.
