Movie Review: Unplanned
Every life matters. Read Peer's review of Unplanned, Captain Marvel, and Dumbo for July!Rating: Rated R for some disturbing/bloody images.
It’s amazing how a single moment can change the direction of a life forever. Some moments can be life-saving, while others can be quite the opposite. “Unplanned” is the story of Abby Johnson, the youngest Planned Parenthood clinic director in history who successfully ran a clinic for many years. She is called in the operation room for the first time, and what she sees forces her to evaluate the true nature of her profession. On the technical side, I found the film to be a mixed bag. Some of the performances are subpar while others are profound, the dialogue delivery is much the same and the story pacing can be inconsistent.
On the storytelling side, “Unplanned” is a tough film to witness. The film depicts multiple methods of abortion; watching a baby being forcibly ripped out of the womb is something that I don’t want to see again. Human life is something we as Christians hold as sacred. The often-quoted Psalm 139:13 says “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” God cares for human life, regardless of whether that life is 90 years or nine minutes.

Captain Marvel
Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence, action and brief suggestive language.
“Captain Marvel” depicts the origin story of Carol Danvers, an extraterrestrial Kree warrior and an ex-Air Force pilot with amnesia. When a mission gone wrong forces her back to Earth, she must learn how to harness mysterious powers while discovering who she is, who she was and who she needs to be.
Peer Rating: 4/5
Dumbo
Rated PG for peril/action, some thematic elements and brief mild language.
Another live-action reboot of a classic animated film, “Dumbo” revisits the story of a baby elephant gifted with the ability to fly. Tim Burton adds his unique and trademark style, bringing on notable actors such as Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny DeVito and Michael Keaton.
