When you think of fall, what colors come to mind? If we think alike, brown, yellow, orange and maybe a hint of darker red or blue spring up. You may even associate the season with beige, burgundy or burnt orange. Monochromatic outfits elevate a simple look by adding elements of slightly similar shades to create depth and chicness. Here are some tips to help you find or shop for the best monochromatic outfit at your local Salvation Army Thrift Store!

Start by choosing a base color. This will help to contrast darker and lighter shades against it, the base color.

Add different variations of the base color. Don’t be afraid to incorporate light or dark-toned colors or shades.

Create contrast. The color variations must be slightly different, so the overall appearance doesn’t look lackluster or have a loss of vibrance.

Remember four monochromatic elements: Hue, tone, shade and tint. Hue is the shade or base color, tone refers to light and darkness, shade is the base color with a black addition, and tint is the base color with a white addition.

Balance vibrancy. While tones add depth, darker shades and lighter tints can assist with balancing out the vibrancy of a bright base color such as yellow or white.

Add your pizzazz! Utilize accessories such as jewelry, sunglasses, scarves and head wraps that compliment your personality and add visual interest.
