To the Christian College Student Struggling During Finals Week
"You’re not alone. You’re deeply loved. God is with you every step of the way."Finals week can feel overwhelming — but you’re not alone. Here are some truths to carry you through this stressful and challenging week.
1. You are more than your GPA.
Your grades matter, and it’s good to work hard. But your worth isn’t defined by your academic performance; your identity is rooted in Christ. God’s love doesn’t fluctuate with your GPA.
2. Invite God into your studies.
Before you open your books and notes, pray. Ask God for wisdom, peace, and focus.
Dear Lord, give me peace, focus, and strength. Help me trust You more than my circumstances. In Your name, Amen.
3. Prioritize rest.
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’”
Matthew 11:28 (NLT)
Rest isn’t laziness—it’s essential. It’s healthy. Getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night improves memory, focus, and comprehension. Rest is a gift. Also, students with better sleep habits tend to get better grades!
4. Don’t go at it alone.
Reach out to friends, mentors, or campus ministries. Let others pray for you and encourage you.
Studying with others can help you clarify difficult concepts and make studying more engaging.
5. Speak truth.
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8b (NLT)
Practice affirmations and recite Scripture that pertains to your struggles. Replace “I can’t do this” with “I can do all things through Christ” (Philippians 4:13). Let God’s word shape your mindset.
6. Remember that you’ve got this.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.”
John 14:16 (NLT)
You’re not alone. You’re deeply loved. God is with you every step of the way.
