Slow Down
“Slowing down allows you to look at every angle and possibility of every decision you have to make with care and grace.”
Do you find yourself worried and anxious about the future?
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3, ESV).
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21, ESV).
Matthew 6:30 says: “And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?”
“For the first time, I’m thinkin’ past tomorrow.”
Okay, so that last quote isn’t from the Bible. It’s from “Hamilton,” the hit Broadway musical created by Lin-Manuel Miranda. But hopefully, you get the point. Alexander Hamilton, in the musical, was creating a legacy and preparing for his future.
How many of you can relate? At this age, you are, hopefully, paving and preparing the way for a successful future. You are making decisions that could impact your life years from now. That’s a crazy amount of pressure to face.
When you find yourself anxious about the future, remember to slow down and trust that you don’t have to handle everything on your own. Slowing down is one of the best things you can do as you embark in the next chapter of your life. Slowing down allows you to look at every angle and possibility of every decision you have to make with care and grace.
In an article this month, Flo LaBrado guides you through these decisions of taking that next step in your career. It’s not a step-by-step guide, but rather, she offers tangible and wise advice that you can take in this next chapter. Also in this month’s issue is an article on rest, specifically on how you can take a Sabbath, or what’s known as a day of rest. As you prepare for this next chapter in your life, remember to rest. You need to rest and recharge before you can take the next step.
I hope these articles encourage you as you embark on next steps in your life. Whether you are graduating, taking an internship, or working a summer job, you can rest that God has got you.
