“No Longer Bound” by Forrest Frank

Every September, I get excited about new beginnings. Some people are starting a new school year, extracurricular programs begin again, gardeners are planting new seeds and overall, many of us are feeling refreshed from the summer. The newness that September brings reminds me of the newness we find when we are refreshed by Christ. A song that I believe wholly captures this feeling of freedom is “No Longer Bound” by Forrest Frank and Hulvey. This song is an upbeat Christian song (which can sometimes feel hard to come by), with fun instrumental sections, and a mix of singing and rap. On first listen, the carefree nature of this song reminded me of “Sunday Best” by Surfaces, which I later realized is no coincidence. Forrest Frank is a part of the band, Surfaces, and has been making music for several years. This song, “No Longer Bound,” is about how our own priorities and sin can make us feel tied down and lost, but the presence and grace of God break those chains and free us. It seems that this singer is dedicated to expressing the joy that he has in his heart as someone who has grown up knowing the Lord.

“Hopeful” by Jervis Campbell is a beautiful song that captures the nostalgia of a month like September. It’s a slow burn, so if you listen, make sure you listen all the way through. The song is about how God never gives up on us, allowing us to be hopeful for new possibilities.

“Thank You, Lord” by Jon Guerra is effortless and soothing. The premise of the song is simple: we are loved, provided for and guided by a good God. At the end of the day, we can do nothing but be still and thank Him for what He has done for us.
