In the small town of Cortland, Ohio, Cadence Esker is making an impact—both on and off the volleyball court. A sophomore at high school, Cadence (or “Cady” better known to her family and friends) is known for her leadership, her faith, and her fierce dedication to the game she loves.

As the only child of Salvation Army officers (pastors), Cady has grown up surrounded by service and faith. Her days are filled with school, sports, and volunteering at church, where she volunteers her time and AV skills. At home, she’s accompanied by her loyal Chihuahua, Poncho, who adds a little extra joy to her busy life.

Cady’s passion for volleyball is undeniable. She plays competitively for both her school and a travel team, taking on the demanding role of an all-around player. “Being on the court is rewarding but full of pressure and hard work,” she says. “I barely get a break, but I love the competition and encouraging my teammates.” As team captain, she takes that encouragement seriously; lifting others up in tough moments and celebrating their successes.

For Cady, volleyball is more than just a sport—it’s a reflection of her faith. “Being on the court is a lot like faith,” she explains. “We have to be passionate, work hard, and keep going even when things get difficult.”

Her relationship with God continues to grow, thanks to the support of her family and friends. “I know that my teen years can be difficult, but relying on the Lord to guide me is what helps me to grow,” she shares. She sees God’s hand in the opportunities and people in her life and strives to be the source of joy to others.

To other young people, Cady offers this encouragement: “Do what you love but live it through the Lord and not yourself.”
