Angel Studios’ “David” Is Worth Watching

From Angel Studios, “David” depicts the story of a boy with a heart for God and a destiny far greater than he expected. The film widely covers David’s story, but condenses it enough into a feature-length film. There are some creative liberties taken, omitting and altering pieces of the story’s timeline, but it hits most of the major moments pre-kingship without compromising the biblical narrative. I’m happy to say that Christian movies have reached a level of quality previously considered improbable. The distinct animation and acting were better than I had expected, even considering the Christian contemporary music artists featured in speaking roles. The original songs are fun and fit the film well enough, emphasizing the story rather than pausing it. David is known as a “man after God’s own heart.” He wasn’t perfect — he sinned just like all of us, sometimes in ways unthinkable to associate with someone of that title. He was chosen as king not for perfection, but because despite everything, he strove to honor God, to trust Him through the good, the bad and the unbearable. In this way, I think we can all be a little more like the shepherd king.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Season 2)

Rating: TV-PG | Platform: Disney+

A year after preventing pantheonic pandemonium, Percy and friends must race to save Grover, Thalia, and the camp itself. While it’s generally a fun series that fans of the book may enjoy, the show contains numerous references to marital infidelity and some innuendo that brings it down a notch for me.

Man vs. Baby

Rating: TV-PG | Platform: Netflix

After his fateful encounter with a bee, Trevor Bingley is down on his luck, low on funds and caring for an abandoned infant. However, when a lucrative opportunity arises, how could he refuse? While not as funny as the previous installment, “Man vs. Baby” is full of humor and heart.
