12 Rules of Summer
“The big moments in your life will come, but taking pleasure in the small moments will help you better appreciate the bigger moments.”
Looking to make the most of those sunny and bright days of summer? Here are a few “12 rules of summer” to help you see this sunny season as a time for relaxation, fun, and making memories. The days of blue have passed by, and now the sun is out (hopefully).
Embrace spontaneity. Take spontaneous road trips! If you live near a body of water, pack the car and drive to the beach with friends. Discover the joy of unplanned adventures.
Spend time outdoors. Partake in activities like hiking, picnics, and camping. Fresh air can do wonders for the soul.
Stay active. When bored, move your body. Go swimming, take a bike ride, play sports — anything to keep your mind and body active.
Connect with friends and family. Even if you live far away from friends, they’re always a text or phone call away! Gather friends for a game night, go to family barbecues, and attend church.
Try something new. Step out of your comfort zone! Engage your mind with something new like learning a new hobby, trying new foods, or reading books on any subject.
Relax and unwind. As much as moving your body is important, downtime and rest is just as important. Stay inside and read a book, take naps, and meditate on scripture.
Nourish your body. Stay hydrated and eat well! Drink plenty of water and feed your body with healthy foods, like fruits and vegetables.
Protect your skin. Wear your sunscreen at all times when outdoors.
Enjoy the little things. Find joy in simple pleasures: watching sunsets, stargazing, enjoying ice cream, etc. The big moments in your life will come, but taking pleasure in the small moments will help you better appreciate the bigger moments.
Be safe. Follow safety guidelines! This goes for every aspect in your life.
Give back. Find ways to involve yourself in the community. Participate in local events.
Capture your memories. Take photos, keep a journal, create scrapbooks — these summer experiences are worth documenting when you want to look back on these memories.
Above all else, have fun!
