Have you ever been thrifting and found the perfect dress, but when you get home, you find a button is missing? Or found a pair of jeans with a lousy zipper or rip? All thrifters have! That is part of the thrifting experience. Holes or rips shouldn’t ruin a fantastic shopping trip and a wearable pair of jeans.

There are multiple ways to mend a pair of ripped jeans, depending on the rip. My personal favorite, for a straight rip, is to hand sew the tear, then flip the jeans inside out. Use interfacing or fabric mending tape under the ripped area and iron the area. Once the area is all patched up, cut the access thread. If the rip is not a straight cut but a hole with missing fabric, you will not be able to sew it. The best option in this case is to patch the hole up with another piece of cloth or perhaps embroidery stitches over the hole.
