Have you ever read a book and just said, wow? Not just “wow!” But a wow that leaves you speechless and yearning to read more. This was my experience reading “The Ballad of Never After.” This is the second book in the “Once Upon a Broken Heart” series, and I seriously couldn’t keep myself from reading this book in any free time I had. All I kept thinking about throughout my days was sitting down, opening my book, and reading just a few more lines, even when I was sleepy.

If you have ever been intrigued by the enemies-to-lovers trope, I can confidently say that Garber’s writing style executed the trope well and had me kicking my feet and grinning from ear to ear. Evangeline and Jacks took me through an unforgettable quest full of truth and tricks. My favorite part about this book was the end of the book because although cliffhangers are no fun at all, this cliffhanger left me completely shocked. I’m still shocked, honestly.

History is one of my favorite subjects to learn about, because it takes us back to a time that we can no longer exist in, but through photos, books, and movies, we get a glimpse of what life was like. That always sparks my curiosity. Graham’s writing transported me back to World War I. The romance between Adele and Jerry, two war heroes, shows that even through the tragedies of war, love endures all sorrow and fear and brings bravery, courage, and jubilation.

The love between Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters is felt through the pages as if the book were alive itself — alive with the power of love that surpasses all of our understanding. Although this book ends in an agonizing tragedy that brings out the waterworks, it reminds us of all to cherish the moments we are gifted with, good or bad.
