Meet Brynn
Brynn knows that no matter what she is going through, she can trust that God is near.Brynn is a 16-year-old officer’s kid who lives in Denver with her parents and sisters. Her hobbies include reading and highlighting the Bible, watching movies, listening to music, collecting vinyl, and traveling. With a passion for music, she plays the guitar and loves to sing. She throws herself into the territorial youth chorus and school choir.
Brynn loves summer camp. “It’s such a great experience, and it will alter your mindset in a good way,” she says. During the past two summers, Brynn has worked at different camps in the Central Territory — enjoying each experience immensely. She is already planning a trip back to camp next summer.
Brynn is lucky to have a lot of people influence her faith walk. At the top of that list is her mom, Major Jillian O’Brien. “My mom is always there for everyone, does her best, makes me laugh, and shows the love of God to others,” Brynn shared.
A few years ago, Brynn’s grandmother passed away. It was a very difficult time for her and her family. She felt a lot of anger and anxiety and was angry at everyone — including God. She repressed these feelings for a period of time, until one day, when she picked up her guitar and played for hours. Playing helped clear her mind and set her back on track with God. Now, she plays for her corps’ praise and worship band and uses her skills to glorify God. Throughout her struggle, God remained close to her and helped her to realize that God works things out in His own time and when it’s best for you.
During moments of anxiety, Brynn looks to 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV), “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” She had received a sticker with the verse on it at camp when she needed the reminder the most. It has stuck with her ever since. It comforts her to know that she can give all those worries to God because He cares about her and her well-being.
Brynn longs to let people her age know that God always cares about you, even when you feel like no one cares or understands. You are not alone because God is always there. God is always there with arms wide open waiting for you to give your heart to Him.
