What’s your favorite camp memory?
Camp brought my husband and me together, lifelong friends, and valuable leadership and life skills. When I think back over my time at camp, I can’t think of one specific favorite memory but of multiple meaningful moments; fun with friends, staff worship, staff trips to Darien Lake or the local Walmart, pizza parties at the pool, Jesus walks at the lake, sitting on the dock on July 4 watching fireworks, laughing so hard until it hurt with friends in our rooms, dining hall or wherever we were working, meeting my future husband, and even our last summer at camp before going to the training school when our one-year-old was walk-running as fast as she could along the road laughing and giggling like crazy. Camp brought my husband and me together, lifelong friends, and valuable leadership and life skills. My passion for camp has even been passed down to the next generation; our 13-year-old is counting down the days until she is old enough to work at camp!

How do you handle transition and moving as an officer?
Transitions are hard, and moving is even harder — for me. As an officer (pastor), I have probably spent a couple of years investing myself in the people and my community. Deep connections with the community have been built, friendships have been made, and roots have been planted. Then there is the “logistical stress” of packing, cleaning, and loading and unloading trucks. I also have three children, so there are educational disruptions, emotions of leaving friends, and possible cultural changes. It’s tough!
When I get that phone call with my marching orders, I know that God is providing me with another opportunity to build new friendships, new connections, and root myself in new soil. A piece of me will always remain with the places I’ve served, but that’s the beauty of it all — I get to have memories and friends in so many places! Transition brings tears and fears, but it also brings opportunities for growth, new beginnings, and the chance to discover strengths you never knew you had.
… but also sweet treats and coffee (lots of coffee) help.
