What do you do when your worst nightmare does something seemingly impossible? Based on the wonderful Christmas book of the same name, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” tells the story of a quiet town’s annual holiday tradition as it comes face to face with the Herdman siblings, otherwise known as “the worst kids ever.” While I’m not a Christmas movie enthusiast, I went into this film with high hopes and was not disappointed.

This wasn’t a half-baked holiday shlock: The quality of the acting, writing and camerawork far exceeds that of made-for-TV movies. Often child actors aren’t always the most refined, but this young cast is fantastic. While it is a heartfelt story at its core, there’s plenty of humor to balance out the experience. Most importantly, this version keeps the original message. Too often, we get caught up in our traditions and celebrations but forget the reason we participate. Christ was born as the Savior for all people, clean or dirty, rich or poor, well-behaved or troubled. May we remember to share the same love that He did, because in the end, we all need the baby born in a manger.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy

Rating: TV-G | Platform: Disney+

Don’t let the childish veneer fool you, “Rebuild the Galaxy” is one of the most well-written “Star Wars” projects in a while. Great humor, competent characters, a wacky reimagining and a heartfelt story culminate together in a wonderful experience. Whether you are a hardcore or a casual “Star Wars” fan, there is plenty to enjoy.

The Forge

Rating: PG

As the latest film from the Kendrick Brothers, “The Forge” follows a young Isaiah Wright as he struggles growing up. The film is very message driven, promoting the transformation that Christ provides and the importance of mentors and discipleship. It’s not a perfect project, but it’s definitely a solid film overall.
